We call her Junie, mostly – though sometimes we call her June Bug. Junie is a big, robust Shetland girl. Eating is a high priority for all sheep, but Junie takes it to a new level. Owing to her strength and sheer enthusiasm, she is able to sweep others aside to get the food morsel she desires. Shetland folks have odd sounding names, derived from Norse, to denote Shetland colors and markings. Junie’s markings are classic katmoget, meaning she has a light body with a dark belly and legs, and a “badger” face. Badger-face doesn’t sound very flattering but Junie carries it off, and we think she’s lovely.
Despite being somewhat “assertive” with her fluff mates, Junie is a little bit shy with humans. But if by chance you happen to have a handful of grain, she’s willing to set aside her reticence. Her schnozzle, which seems somehow huge, feels wonderfully squishy and soft.
